Welcome Winter!

As a child the winter holidays were spent with my grandparents in Connecticut. My favorite parts of the trip were when we took the train into New York City. I loved the whole experience of purchasing a ticket, having it stamped, riding the train and arriving somewhere special. This December we will study trains. We will learn the different parts of the train, different kinds of trains, stamp tickets and arrange different shaped tracks. With an already peaked interest in trains, I know this unit will be a favorite for many.

In addition to the train unit in our classroom will be getting ready for the winter holidays! Our practical life shelf will have works to help practice hanging ornaments, making orange and clove pomanders, and placing candles in a menorah. We will also celebrate with our holiday sing, making holiday gifts and even taking a walk to see the trains at Macy’s!

The essence of independence is to be able to do something for one’s self. Adults work to finish a task, but the child works in order to grow, and is working to create the adult, the person that is to be. Such experience is not just play... it is work he must do in order to grow up.
